How Roots COO is Redefining Leadership in Manufactured Housing

In an industry often shaped by data, market analysis, and operational strategies, there’s something powerful about leadership that goes beyond the boardroom. Roots Management Group’s Chief Operating Officer Corey Wikstrom has done just that—by becoming the first executive at Roots to move into one of the company’s manufactured home communities.

This isn’t just a personal housing decision—it’s a bold leadership move that’s giving Wikstrom a unique, ground-level perspective on what residents' experience every day.

When Wikstrom relocated from Utah to Gilbert, Arizona, he was faced with the same housing challenges many Americans are confronting today: skyrocketing interest rates, high home prices, and rental costs that continue to climb. But instead of opting for a traditional home or rental, he decided to buy a manufactured home in a Roots community.

“I love this industry and believe in it,” Wikstrom said. “Living in one of our communities lets me experience the same benefits, challenges, and opportunities as our residents—and it gives me a better understanding of where we can improve.”

From Operations to Firsthand Experience

Wikstrom’s decision to live where Roots operates isn’t just symbolic; it’s strategic. From evaluating neighborhood amenities to experiencing the financial freedom manufactured housing provides, he’s gaining insights that data alone can’t deliver.

With three kids in college, his choice also highlights an often-overlooked truth: manufactured housing isn’t only for retirees. It’s a lifestyle that supports families, working professionals, and anyone looking for attainable homeownership without the burden of a 30-year mortgage.

“This move gives me a firsthand look at what’s working well and where we can continue to elevate the resident experience,” Corey said.

Corey’s approach aligns with Roots Management Group’s mission to provide clean, safe, and welcoming neighborhoods that people can proudly call home. Guided by its ROOTED core values—Rally Together as One, Overcome and Deliver, Ownership for All, Trusted to Transform, Empower Growth, and Dedicated to Bettering Lives—Roots is proving that strong leadership means being connected to the communities you serve.

Tom Stapley, president and CEO of Roots, sees Wikstrom’s decision as a milestone for the company and the industry.
“It’s incredible to see Corey fully embrace the lifestyle our residents enjoy every day,” Stapley said. “His leadership by example reinforces just how valuable and attainable this housing option really is.”

When executives immerse themselves in the lifestyle they promote, they gain not only credibility but also meaningful, real-world perspective. “This gives us a chance to see what our residents are experiencing firsthand,” says Corey, who takes pride in both his home and the community around him. “I have a great home that gives me more time to focus on the things I love, without the burden of a hefty mortgage or overwhelming upkeep.” By choosing the manufactured housing lifestyle, Corey is able to fully enjoy his hobbies, stay active, and embrace each day with intention.
