This well-deserved recognition celebrates the incredible strides Clayton has made in environmental responsibility and shows us just how far the manufactured housing industry has come.
Gone are the days when manufactured homes were seen as second-tier housing options. Today, they are innovative, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious homes, and often a more affordable path to homeownership.
At Roots Management Group, we are proud to work with manufacturers like Clayton who are leading the charge in redefining what modern housing looks like.
Clayton’s commitment to sustainability is both ambitious and inspiring.
In 2024 alone:
· They added 78 electric forklifts to their operations. These zero-emission machines don’t rely on fossil fuels, reduce noise, and create a safer, cleaner work environment for the teams building America’s homes.
· All 40 Clayton facilities took part in diverting more than 123 million pounds of waste from the landfill last year alone. That's the equivalent of more than 490,000 residential garbage bins.
· All 40 home building facilities and 19 supply facilities are ISO 14001:2015 certified, with continuous improvement processes to increase recycling and landfill diversion while decreasing waste water consumption.
To put this into perspective: traditional site-built homes typically generate 7,000 to 8,000 pounds of waste per home, filling up to four large dumpsters per build. By comparison, manufactured homes—especially those built in facilities like Clayton’s—are engineered with precision, reduced waste, and sustainability in mind.
eBuilt® Homes: The Future of Energy Efficiency
Clayton’s sustainability efforts go beyond the building process—they’re also transforming what it means to live in a modern manufactured home. In 2023, they launched eBuilt® homes, their most energy-efficient homes to date. These homes are constructed to meet the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home standards, making them:
· So energy-efficient that homeowners can save up to 50% on annual energy bills
· Smarter for the environment and for your wallet
In 2024, 97% of all homes Clayton built were eBuilt®, while the remaining 3% met ENERGY STAR® standards.
Combined, these homes are expected to save buyers $39.4 million in energy costs annually.
