Empowering Excellence: Roots Management Group's Annual Community Manager Summit

Roots Management Group recently concluded its highly anticipated Community Manager Summit 2023 in the dynamic city of Phoenix, Arizona.  

This annual summit reaffirms our commitment to equipping our Community Managers (CMs) with the knowledge and tools they need to excel in the manufactured housing industry and continue being business operators. With over 140 dedicated CMs in attendance, the summit was full of engaging content, comprehensive training, community involvement, and networking. 

 The heart of our summit was focused on investing in our CMs' growth, recognizing it as pivotal to the success of our communities. 

Our partners delivered informative presentations, covering topics from renters' insurance to effective sales techniques and running P&L’s and move-in/move-out procedures.

“We want to equip our Community Managers with valuable tools to handle a wide range of situations,” says Shaun Huxford, Executive Vice President of Roots Management Group, who adds that the primary goal of the Summit is for the CMs to know they are not alone; that they have the Roots Family of support behind them.  

CMs dived deep into the intricacies of community management, learning how to handle standard operating procedures, manage expenses, run P&Ls, handle delinquencies and evictions, and focus on the communities. 

“In the CM Summit, we establish where Roots is going, the strategies and tactics to get there, what we expect from the CMs, and what they can expect from us. This year's focus is on Safe, Clean, and Friendly communities. The rest of the year, we measure against these initiatives and direction”. Says Huxford, who did an excellent job of motivating the audience and providing encouragement throughout the three-day summit.  

One of the standout features was the introduction of interactive booths, each representing a crucial department supporting our CMs. But these were not your typical booth setups; our teams took it up a notch by dressing up and having fun prizes and conversation starters.  

The interactive booths fostered meaningful conversations and inquiries. CMs could immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations of each department, gaining insights into the complexities of our industry. This hands-on approach deepened their understanding and strengthened the bonds between departments and CMs. 

Roots Management Group's commitment to innovation and education was fully displayed during this summit. It was an event where learning met fun and where our CMs left with a renewed sense of purpose and understanding. The summit culminated with an awards ceremony recognizing the remarkable achievements of our CMs, celebrating successes such as community development, cleanup initiatives, and gains in occupancy and retention rates.

Roots CEO, Matt Mathison also challenged everyone to embrace change by participating in a companywide push-up challenge, fostering mental and physical strength. The push-up challenge is inclusive and accessible to all employees, regardless of their fitness level. It encourages everyone to set personal fitness goals, whether completing a certain number of push-ups or gradually building strength over time. It demonstrates that it takes grit, determination, and embracing the process just like in our everyday lives.  

Balancing work and play at our summit made for an unforgettable experience. The highlight? Karaoke night, where we discovered our American Idol contestant among us!
