Be Epic: Elevating Resilience and Curating Happiness with Victoria Cramer

Be Epic: Elevating Resilience and Curating Happiness with Victoria Cramer

Main Banner - Sept 04

At the recent Roots Management Group Community Manager Summit, Victoria Cramer delivered an extraordinary talk that resonated with our team. Known for her resilience and ability to inspire, Victoria’s journey and powerful insights captivated our 250 employees, mainly made up of our dedicated Community Managers. Her session was more than just motivational; it provided actionable strategies for navigating the challenges inherent in community management.

Victoria began her presentation with a refreshing and interactive challenge—she encouraged everyone to dance for one minute, and we smiled as we danced! This simple yet effective exercise reminded us of how joy and spontaneity can positively impact our mental well-being in a time so many of us struggle with depression and burnout. Victoria’s emphasis on incorporating small, joyful actions into our routines was timely and uplifting.

She then introduced the concept of the “turtle moment,” a metaphor for the challenges and stressors we face in life. Victoria invited attendees to reflect on their struggles, likening them to navigating through a turbulent sea toward a common goal. With Roots Management Group’s ambitious target of achieving yearly and quarterly company goals, Victoria compared the community managers to an armada, each steering their vessel through unique challenges while working collaboratively towards success.

Drawing from her ongoing battle with cancer, Victoria shared her journey of adopting healthier habits and building resilience. She illustrated how daily choices—such as improved diet, exercise, and a positive mindset—contribute to her recovery and survival. Her message was clear: resilience is built incrementally by consistently showing up with a positive attitude and making thoughtful choices.

Curate Happiness: Infuse Mini Vacations into Your Day
A highlight of Victoria’s talk was her advice on curating happiness through “mini vacations.” She encouraged attendees to create daily moments of joy, whether through meditation, stretching, or reading. By integrating these small acts of self-care into their routines, individuals can enhance their energy levels and overall well-being. Victoria referenced Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara to emphasize how finding joy in everyday moments can transform lives. Dani Currin, a Roots Management Community Manager, shared, “I'm already reading the first chapter. I enjoyed hearing Victoria speak. Her attitude of not taking no for an answer resonated with me, and I’m excited to carry that forward into my daily life. It ties in nicely with the 'Make It Happen' theme of the summit and overcoming obstacles in our communities.”

Choose Joy and Cut Out Negativity
Victoria’s discussion on choosing joy and managing relationships was particularly impactful. She categorized people into additives (those who uplift you), detractors (those who drain your energy), multipliers (those who add significant value), and dividers (those who create negativity). Individuals can cultivate a positive environment that fosters growth and happiness by nurturing relationships with additives and multipliers while distancing from detractors and dividers.

Exercise and Accountability: Keys to Showing Up
Victoria highlighted the critical role of exercise in both physical and mental health. She shared how using apps like Strava for social fitness can build connections and provide accountability, crucial for combating loneliness and staying motivated—elements especially relevant for those in community management roles.

The Power of Boundaries: Communicate Your Needs
Setting and communicating boundaries was another key topic Victoria addressed. She stressed the importance of understanding and advocating for personal needs to maintain energy and satisfaction. Drawing from her experiences with complex medical decisions, Victoria illustrated that clear boundaries are essential for preventing frustration and ensuring fulfillment.

Living Loudly: The Importance of Showing Up
Victoria’s closing message was a powerful call to action: “Be Epic. Elevate Resilience. Curate Happiness.” She encouraged everyone to wake up with intention, find joy in daily activities, and lead by example. Community managers can inspire others and foster thriving communities by creating a positive, energetic environment.

Victoria’s session was not just a talk but a transformative experience. Her practical tools and inspiring messages motivated our team and gave them strategies to tackle daily challenges, build resilience, and cultivate happiness.
