In the evolving world of manufactured housing, some of the most inspiring stories come from people who started at the ground level and built their careers, Literally from the ground up. One of those stories comes from the Champion Homes manufacturing facility in Burleson, Texas.
Adrienne Moreno’s journey began just out of high school, at 18 years old when he answered a simple help-wanted ad. “I was looking for a foot in the door,” he says. “What jumped out at me was learning to build homes.”
He started small, doing whatever was needed, even pushing garbage cans, picking up construction materials, and doing what was needed on any given day. But what stood out most to those around him was Adriene’s willingness to learn and his eagerness to grow.
“I moved into finishes, learned how to roof homes, then to siding,” Adriene shares. “I loved that my job kept changing and I continue moving up the longer I’ve been here.”
Now, four years later, that curiosity and commitment paid off. Champion recognized Adriene’s drive and gave him opportunities to expand his skills across multiple areas of the business, from construction to administration to purchasing.
“Champion helped me build a career and a life for my family that I’m proud of,” he says. Today, Adriene and his high school sweetheart Ashley are raising their two-year-old daughter Olive, with another daughter on the way. “Champion has literally helped me provide the life I’ve always dreamed of, and to be able to provide for my growing family it’s amazing” says Adriene, who is always smiling and appreciative for the opportunities he has had.
It was during his time on the construction floor that Adriene discovered his next goal. “I’d see sales reps giving tours and taking buyers around, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do one day.”
After gaining experience in administrative and purchasing roles, he transitioned into his current position as Sales Coordinator, a move that recently happened and has now brought his journey full circle.
“Having started where I did, I understand what it takes to build a home from start to finish and which products will work best, and I can contribute to the conversation from experience which is a great feeling.” says Adriene, who knows exactly what the products are like to work with and what goes into making it happen. “Learning different parts of the business has made me better at what I do, and I’m so appreciative.”
Jimmy Griffith, Texas Regional Sales Manager for Champion Homes, says Adriene’s story exemplifies the type of people who thrive in this industry.
“We love when we find people with initiative and motivation,” says Griffith, who’s been with Champion since 1982. “Adriene is a great example of someone who loves to learn and grow, qualities that make a huge difference in manufactured housing.”
Adrienne continues to use the skills he’s learned not only at work but also at home. “I’ve built a chicken coop and gotten really handy around the house,” he laughs.
The Champion Homes plant in Burleson, Texas employs around 300 direct laborers, each contributing to building quality homes in a controlled environment. It is one of the 46 Champion Homes manufacturing facilities in the United States and Western Canada.
As the manufactured housing industry continues to grow and evolve, opportunities for motivated individuals like Adrienne are expanding across all levels.
“When you have a positive outlook, you can do anything,” Adriene says. “Each day is a great learning experience.”
