In a world where our lives can often become disconnected, finding a place where you truly belong is priceless. Roots Management Group understands the value of community and goes above and beyond to create places where residents live and thrive.
We recently sat down with East Coast Senior Vice President Rick Tubaugh to discuss the heart of Roots' mission: building inclusive communities that cater to the diverse needs and desires of our residents.
One of the keys to building thriving communities is recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work. Roots Management Group offers a range of community types to meet the varied needs of our residents, including 55+, family, RV, and hybrid manufactured housing communities.
"We believe that community is about inclusivity and bringing people of all ages together to create a vibrant, interconnected network of neighbors," says Tubaugh who says in turn we have safer more welcoming communities when everyone has a sense of community and pride where they live.
Amenities Tailored to Resident Desires
Roots Management Group goes the extra mile to ensure that the amenities we provide are aligned with what our residents genuinely value. We regularly survey our residents to get a sense of what they like and what they want. Our commitment to customization extends to even minor details.
For example, in Cross Creek, Florida, through surveying, we discovered that the residents wanted another pool. They already had a substantial pool, but with over 700 home sites one pool wasn’t enough. We installed a lap pool with other amenities that they needed to accommodate the growth in the community. Also, the survey helped us identify that the Jacuzzi in that same community was not working for many because it had a step to get in so we were able to reconfigure it to eliminate the step all together. Communication is critical and we appreciate when we can make improvements that the residents need and want.
Another community had a small golf putt put course that we thought should be replaced with a pickleball court, but they said they enjoy it and wanted to keep it so we gave it a facelift and still added the pickleball court nearby. When it comes to creating a community that people genuinely enjoy living in, understanding the unique tastes and preferences of each community is essential. We take the time to get to know our residents, to understand their lifestyles, and to cater to their needs when planning and executing different events and activities. It's about creating an environment that resonates with them, providing a sense of belonging.
Building Community Through Activities
Our focus on building community goes beyond amenities; it's also about creating a strong sense of connection among residents. Activities are tailored to each community's unique needs and lifestyles. As Rick Tubaugh emphasizes, "Each community is so different in terms of lifestyles and activity levels, so you really want to make sure you know your audience." This means understanding the existing residents, their values, and what they take pride in.
Roots Management Group encourages residents to engage with their neighbors through events like spring cleanings, where dumpsters are rolled in for residents to declutter their homes. This is followed by a community barbecue, fostering neighborly connections and a sense of pride in where they live. “One of our communities started a weed and feed; they spray weeds in their yard, and a few neighbors and then we feed them after with a bar-b-que," says Tubaugh who also says activities such as ice cream socials by the pool and children's events where they encourage parents to come are also a hit “Many times the kids all know each other but the parents don’t so getting everyone out and involved is a great way for people to meet neighbors and have a great sense of community and belonging”.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
These community-building initiatives not only create enjoyable social environments but also instill a sense of responsibility and care among residents. The "neighbors helping neighbors" mentality takes root, leading to safer and more secure communities where residents look out for one another.
When neighbors know each other, it reduces security concerns, fosters a stronger sense of belonging, and creates a better overall living environment.
Building communities people enjoy living in is at the core of what Roots Management Group does. We believe that community is about inclusivity, understanding, and customization. It's about creating spaces where residents are neighbors and friends who care for each other, and Roots Management Group is dedicated to making this a reality.
