The Community Manager is an essential ingredient, that we at Roots understand is paramount to success in managing manufactured housing communities. Since this is such an invaluable role, we are working diligently to make sure we have the best processes in place which is a work in progress that we are excited to share with you.
Roots Management Group takes feedback, experience in the industry, and years of knowledge to make sure we offer the best-in-class company support system for our Community Managers.
Roots Management Group is creating a groundbreaking Learning and Development Program from scratch to provide comprehensive training programs. “We have a Roots Certification Program that transforms our employees into business owners and gives them a comprehensive resource to find answers and uniformity,” says Annie Robertson, Director of Learning and Development. “This system has revolutionized how we nurture their talents and maximize the potential of all our Community Managers” adds Robertson.
Empowering Success:
Roots Learning and Development System goes beyond traditional training approaches. It empowers Community Managers by elevating their skills, enabling them to flourish and, ultimately to make more money. "When we acquire a property we often find that the Community Managers are undervalued, lack training and resources,” says Codi Jean, Director of Human Resources at Roots Management Group. "We aim to find the best fit for each type of property, size and location for our community managers and are constantly monitoring the market to make sure we are paying a more than fair base salary,” says Jean who also adds that they offer OTE (On-Target Earnings) bonus, providing opportunities to earn additional incentives closely aligned with increasing NOI (Net Operating Income), and we offer health benefits," adds Jean "We believe in fostering a symbiotic relationship where their success directly translates into our collective growth."
Putting Community Managers at the Forefront:
The Learning and Development Team has spent countless hours and research coming up with the right way to balance feedback and show that they are listening and making improvements based on what they are told. The Learning and Development team at Roots Management Group created the Internal Net Promoter Score (NPS) methodology for exemplifying Roots' commitment to Community Managers.
Roots Management Group prioritizes their invaluable perspectives by basing our NPS scores solely on their votes, giving them a voice to evaluate various divisions within our company. This community manager-driven NPS score is part of every employee’s annual target, which compensation is tied to.
“At Roots, supporting our Community Managers is not just a slogan; it’s ingrained in our DNA” says Robertson who says the company values their input and feedback immensely. “Each team within our organization takes the time to carefully review the feedback provided by our Community Managers, ensuring that we listen and understand their needs. We use this valuable information to make necessary adjustments and improvement, working diligently to create a supportive environment that helps our Community Managers thrive” says Robertson. “Their success is our success, and we are committed to continuously enhancing our systems and processes to better support and empower our dedicated Community Managers”.
Investing in Growth & Unlocking Their Potential:
Transparency is crucial to our approach; we share vital information and involve Community Managers in our budgeting process. The result? They become well-equipped leaders with the knowledge and tools to make a significant impact.
“When we acquire communities, we often discover Community Managers who have never experienced being involved in the financial performance and provide a structured training program,” says Jean. At Roots, we aim to change that narrative. “We train Community Managers, include them in the budget process, and compensate based on financial performance that we share with them.”
“Be Rooted” Annual Community Manager Training Summit
Every year, Roots Community Managers across the country come together for the Roots Community Management Summit. Bridgette Crenshaw, a seasoned Roots community manager in Memphis, Tennessee, with 17 years of experience, attests to the empowering environment Roots provides. "I love my job, and the residents in the community I manage," says Crenshaw, who continually finds new programs and learns about event ideas for the residents in the community she manages. “Coming to the summit, learning new things and talking to fellow Community Managers, hearing new ideas, learning about what is working and what isn’t is priceless” says Crenshaw. The summit also provides a platform to address challenges and work towards innovative solutions. "The opportunity to learn from peers at the Be Rooted Summit further enhances Community Managers' passion and dedication to their roles," adds Crenshaw.
Together, we are striving to unlock the true potential of our communities by transforming undervalued, everyday community managers into empowered business operators with increased earning potential and enhanced expertise.
Roots Management Group’s commitment to investing in and valuing Community Managers sets us apart, enabling us to progress along our journey to revolutionize the industry and redefine what it means to be a Community Manager.
