June is National Homeownership Month, a time to celebrate the life-changing impact of owning a home and the opportunities it creates for families across the country.
At Roots Management Group, we're honored to help residents achieve this milestone every day, and few stories capture the true meaning of homeownership quite like Lori's.
For Lori, purchasing a home wasn't just about achieving a lifelong dream. It was about creating a future for her son, David.
As the mother of an autistic son, Lori spent years thinking about what would happen if she were no longer here to care for him. More than anything, she wanted the peace of mind that came with knowing David would always have a place to call home.
That dream became a reality when Lori discovered a home for sale at Sleepy Hollow.
At the time, Lori was renting at a nearby community and wasn't happy with her living situation. While browsing online listings, she came across a home at Sleepy Hollow and decided to schedule a tour.
The moment she arrived, she knew she had found something special.
"I was in shock and disbelief that I was a first-time homeowner," Lori recalls. "It's been a lifelong dream come true and a huge relief knowing my son David will always have a home."
That sense of relief was years in the making.
According to Sleepy Hollow Community Manager Tuesday Schmidt, Lori had always been focused on building something lasting for her son.
"Lori has been wanting to leave something behind for David if anything happens to her," Tuesday says. "She wasn't happy where she was living before. The day we closed, she started crying because she was so happy."
Those tears represented more than the purchase of a home. They represented security, independence, and a future that Lori had worked hard to create.
Today, Lori and David are thriving in their new community. The home has become a gathering place for family, including Lori's eight grandchildren, who all live nearby.
"They love coming over," Lori says. "There's room for them to run around and spend time together."
Family isn't the only thing that fills Lori's home with joy.
A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Lori has transformed her home into a tribute to her favorite team. Every room features signed memorabilia, autographs, or special Packer's collectibles she has gathered over the years.
This spring brought another unforgettable moment when Lori and her family traveled to Wisconsin and toured Lambeau Field.
"We got to tour Lambeau Stadium in April, and that was another dream come true," she says.
After achieving both homeownership and a bucket-list trip within a matter of months, Lori says she's filled with gratitude.
While she's still adjusting to the responsibilities that come with owning a home, she wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
"All I kept thinking was, 'Wow, I really did this,'" Lori says.
For Lori, homeownership means more than a mortgage or a deed. It means peace of mind. It means knowing her son has a secure future. It means having a place where grandchildren can gather, memories can be made, and dreams can continue to come true.
Tuesday couldn't be happier to see Lori thriving.
"She's super sweet, and I'm so glad she's part of my community," she says.
As we celebrate National Homeownership Month, Lori's story reminds us that a home is more than four walls and a roof. It's a foundation for the future, a source of security, and a place where families can build lasting legacies for generations to come.
At Roots Management Group, we're proud to help residents like Lori turn their dreams into reality, one home, one family, and one life-changing story at a time.
