At Taylors Creek Manufactured Housing Community in Fayetteville, North Carolina, New beginnings are happening. For Office Assistant Kira Thompson, helping people find stability, purpose, and pride in homeownership is more than a job, she says it’s her calling.

Recently, Kira had the privilege of helping the Barrett family, a mother and son who were searching for a fresh start after a difficult chapter in their lives. They had been renting for years and were looking for another rental when they came across an ad for Taylors Creek. They intended to continue renting, but Kira saw something more for them.

“When we first spoke, I could tell she had such a beautiful spirit,” Kira said. “She shared that her husband had left suddenly, and she was just trying to make things work for her and her son. I told her, ‘God’s not done with you yet, he has a plan for you to prosper.’”

After a few conversations, Kira encouraged her to consider owning instead of renting. This isn't just about being an investment, but as a way to truly plant roots. “She had good credit, she was ready, and I knew she deserved something that was hers,” Kira shared. “They had their eye on one home, but I showed them another that I just felt was meant to be. It was move-in ready, and when I said, ‘This one’s for you,’ she cried. We both did.”

That moment turned into a life-changing milestone for the Barrett family. They closed on their new home and started a new chapter in a great community that is welcoming, safe and clean.

“Even though this is my job, my heart is for the people,” Kira said. “What gravitates me toward sales isn’t the money—it’s the people and helping them. Everybody has a story, and when someone trusts me with theirs, I take that to heart.”- Kira Thompson, Office Assistant, Taylors Creek Community.

Kira’s compassion comes from her own experiences. A Fayetteville native, she served in the Army in the medical field before a knee injury led to an honorable discharge. But her desire to help people never left her.

“I wanted to stay in public service,” she said. “I worked in a law firm’s foreclosure department, but I didn’t like taking homes away from people. I wanted to be on the other side, and actually help people get into homes.”

That calling led her to Roots Management Group. Kira joined the company a year ago, starting at Anderson Creek while six months pregnant. After having her son, she transitioned to Taylors Creek, where she’s thrived in both property management and sales.

To date, Kira has sold three homes, and has three more in the pipeline, all within the last two months.

“Property management isn’t always easy, but I’ve learned patience,” she said. “People can get upset about things outside our control, but at the end of the day, our job is to keep our residents happy. Without them, there’s no us.”

A Team That Lifts Each Other Up

Kira credits much of her growth to the Roots team around her, especially her community manager, Shay Williams, and sales leaders Rose and Dan.

“Shay is amazing, she’s the kind of person who says, ‘If I don’t know, let’s figure it out together.’ We’ve only known each other a month, but our teamwork goes so far,” Kira said. She also says that the sales team at Roots is "Rose and Dan are phenomenal. Anytime I have a question, they pick up the phone. They gave me the confidence I needed with the paperwork and closing process. They never made me feel bad for making mistakes, they encouraged me.”

For Kira, the encouragement and teamwork at Roots have confirmed that she’s exactly where she’s meant to be.

“Property management and sales is where I should be,” she said. “I can feel it, it’s part of my plan.”

And for families like the Barretts, who now have a home and hope for their future, it’s clear that plan is already making a difference, one story, and one home, at a time.
