Community Manager Spotlight: Dani Currin I AM Roots Award Recipient

At our annual Community Manager Summit in Phoenix, AZ, Dani Currin, Community Manager at Oakwood Village, was honored with the I AM Roots Award—a prestigious accolade recognizing outstanding dedication, compassion, and leadership within the Roots Management Group. The award is given to a community manager who exemplifies the spirit of service, making their community thrive by fostering connection, care, and a sense of belonging.  

Dani, humble as ever, expressed her gratitude "If I am being honest, I am very humbled by the award because I feel like so many of us with Roots do the same things I do. It was definitely an honor. I just try to help out when and where I can. My focus is making sure my tenants feel seen and understood. A lot of DQ and occupancy issues can be solved when people feel like someone cares.”  

Since joining Roots in January 2022 as an Office Assistant, Dani quickly made an impact. Just three months later, she was promoted to Community Manager despite having no prior property management experience—a testament to her drive, passion, and ability to learn on the fly. Now, she leads Oakwood Village with a heart for her tenants and an eye toward building meaningful connections. 

The Secret to Dani's Success: People First 

Creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere has transformed the energy at Oakwood Village. According to Dani, the shift came when residents and staff took the time to truly get to know each other. Her commitment to bringing people together through community events has fostered a sense of unity that makes Oakwood feel like home for everyone.  

Dani’s Advice for New Community Managers  
As someone who’s thrived in a challenging industry, Dani encourages new managers to be curious and adaptable "Be open to learning and evolving. This business can be challenging in so many ways, but the effort you put in will come back to you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn new things every day. I’ve found some of my best friends in this company just because I spoke up when I needed help."  

Dani’s journey is a shining example of how passion, teamwork, and empathy can overcome challenges—even without prior industry experience. Her approach to property management. Making tenants feel seen, heard, and valued—is the very essence of what the I AM Roots Award stands for.
