At Roots Management Group, homeownership is about so much more than having a place to live. It is about stability, pride, family, and creating opportunities for a brighter future. Recently at Ravines, Community Manager Amber Joiner experienced one of those unforgettable moments that perfectly captures what community means.

Amber, who has been with Roots Management Group for more than five years, recently helped a longtime resident take a major step into retirement with less financial stress, thanks to the love and support of her family.

The resident, Gaynell has lived in the community since 2017, came into the office with questions about paying off her home early. Her children wanted to help purchase the home for their mother as she prepared for retirement after years of hard work.

“She was nervous because she wasn’t sure it could be done but excited to come in and check,” Amber shared.

What made the moment even more meaningful was the opportunity to pair the payoff with a special promotion offering three months of free lot rent, helping the resident begin this new chapter with even more financial breathing room.

“Gaynell has always been an amazing tenant,” Amber said. “I know she has struggled in the past to maintain all of the bills and rent for her home while living on the income she has. To be able to give her this opportunity at such an important time is what I want to do for all of my tenants. She was so excited and I was just as excited for her.”

Over the years, Amber has watched the resident care for her home with pride and perseverance through life’s ups and downs. When the resident explained that retirement was approaching because she could no longer physically continue working, Amber immediately recognized how impactful this opportunity could be.

But what stood out most to Amber was the love surrounding the decision.

“The love and care her kids showed for her in this moment will always win with me,” she said. “The children who live close enough still come visit her every Sunday for dinner. She has her grandson after school sometimes and they are always helping her with things. When she shared what they wanted to do for her, it was a no brainer to me. I love seeing things like this. It just warms the soul.”

Moments like these highlight the power of Roots Management Group’s lease-to-own program, which helps residents work toward homeownership without the burden of a traditional long-term mortgage.

“It really gives people the opportunity to own their home without a long-term contract like a mortgage,” Amber explained. “It creates sustainable residents who take care of the home because they know one day it will be theirs. It gives a different level of pride in the home than a rental.”

For Amber, one of the most rewarding parts of being a community manager is watching residents achieve milestones they once believed were out of reach.

“The area we live in, and where many of our residents grew up, isn’t really known for homeownership,” she said. “To see people succeed in something they weren’t ever sure was possible and to be a part of that is the best feeling.”

Now, with one less monthly expense to worry about, the resident can focus on enjoying retirement and spending time with the family who helped make this dream a reality.

“This puts her in a prime position to save and start off her retirement with less stress,” Amber said. “It’s one less bill she has to think about while enjoying her well-deserved life.”

When asked to describe the experience in one phrase, Amber’s answer perfectly summed up the story:

“Love shows the way.”

For Amber, the family’s support became the guiding light that helped their mother confidently step into her next chapter. And for others who may be considering homeownership, she hopes this story serves as a reminder that the dream is possible.

“I hope this shows people they can do it too,” Amber said. “Homeownership is just a few steps away.”
